Spring Showers & Summer Fringe

Spring in Raleigh came early this year, with highs in the 80s and a few 90 degree days as early as April. I love that Raleigh experiences every season but I'll admit... spring and summer are my least favorite. I'm a lover of layers; I like to add on light jackets or blazers, or wear long-sleeves with shorts and mini skirts.  I get excited when I look at the weather and see that we have rain in the forecast in the coming days. When it rains, we get a small break from the heat and humidity and I get to pull out my trench coats and light sweaters. I cherish spring showers; I think of my sister and I splashing through puddles, sitting on the back porch and falling asleep, and running to the neighborhood gazebo when I needed time to be alone. Rain seems to quiet the busy summer streets and activities, and everything looks green and alive again.

Light rain was in the forecast on the day of this shoot, but it wasn't until we began shooting that the rain really began to come down (of course). I scurried under the protection of a large magnolia tree, and fortunately had my hat in lieu of an umbrella. This Nanette Lepore halter top is one of my favorite spring/summer tops, with a black jacquard body and bodice with beaded fringe along the neckline. It's pieces like this that make summer fun and special, especially on a rainy day.

Top: Nanette Lepore (I love this option and this very reasonable option), Jeans: AG, Trench: Anthropologie (now on SALE!), Sandals: very old Nine West (great alternative here), Hat: J. Crew (identical here), Purse: 3.1 Phillip Lim
